Sports Betting Lingo

betting termsI’m new to betting on psorts and was surprised at all the sports betting terms used at the sportsbooks.  I knew a few basic terms like betting the spread and the current line, but it gets much more advanced with terms like parlays and teasers.  Also, I read that 80% of all bets are now “live bets”.  Live betting are bets made during the game.  For example, you can bet on the next play of the game.  This will be fun during football season!

I have been using Bodog, but Lately I switched and have been using BetOnline to place my small sports bets.  I have never played any fantasy sports games/leagues, but I think I’m going to give it a shot.  Yahoo sports and ESPN Fantasy Sports are the 2 most common sites for running leagues.  Anyone have any experience with the fantasy sports?

I have never bet horses online, but have been to my local race track and they have even more betting terms.  I like to bet on a horse to “Place”, which means if that horse comes in first OR second place, I win the bet.  There is also a Quinella where you must call the first two finishers, and order doesn’t matter.  This can get very confusing for new bettors.
